Balluff Safety

Safety with Balluff quality

Automation requires safety. Safety is based on reliability. Balluff quality guarantees ultra-reliable solutions. Therefore, the Balluff safety concept also consists of products and solutions that fulfill their tasks over the course of years with the same reliability and precision. This includes a continually increasing number of products and components that contribute to minimizing the danger for humans and production plants. These components can easily be integrated into your system controller.

Unique: Safety over IO-Link

To increase the efficiency of safety concepts and integrate them in the system control, we have developed a safe I/O module: the Balluff Safety Hub, the first integrated safety solution via IO-Link! Safety over IO-Link is easy to integrate, responds quickly and can replace the control cabinet.

Safety over IO-Link links automation and safety technology. IO-Link handles communication down to the last meter and provides both sensor/actuator details as well as secure information. State-of-the-art, with the usual Balluff quality and all from a single source.

Freedom to change your system down to the last minute

By the scaling of topology and safety components, you can easily and quickly adapt your application to changing requirements at any time. Exceptionally flexible down to the last minute.

Safe signal acquisition and communication

The Safety Hub links automation and safety technology for the first time via IO-Link. This new I/O module is merely linked to the IO-Link Master. Because the system is open toward the system level, you can connect nearly any safety device.

By connecting the automation and safety technology, machine protection in one system is accomplished. This is because IO-Link supplies both sensor/actuator details and secure information. With Safety over IO-Link, you use the best of both worlds. And the integration of safety technology becomes easier than ever before.

The parameterization is done centrally via the controller. Safety-related information is sent directly through the master to the controller. Using Profisafe via Profinet guarantees secure communication with the controller.

The features

  • Infrastructure for automation and safety technology up to PLe / SIL3 via IO-Link
  • Low maintenance costs in case of service thanks to comprehensive diagnostics and easy device replacement
  • Lower costs by using uniform M12 single-ended cordsets
  • Reduction of the required IP addresses
  • Standardized wiring concept, reliable guard locking devices can be connected directly
  • Nearly any safety device can be connected

Photoelectric danger zone protection for detecting people

Safety light curtains

BLG 4A safety light curtains from Balluff are photoelectric, electrosensitive protective equipment. They detect fingers, hands and other body parts and are used in work areas where machines present potential hazards. They stop hazardous movements in these areas.

The features

  • Better use of space by saving on protective fence designs
  • Fast interaction between human and machine
  • High level of manipulation protection
  • For detecting fingers, hands and other body parts
  • Safety parameters: PLe / SIL3
  • Defined safety zone with protective infrared field
  • Hazardous movements are stopped reliably

Robust and reliable locking and guard locking devices

Safety switches

BID F101 safety switches from Balluff with a separate actuator provide protection for persons and machines. Together with a machine control system and a protective barrier, they safeguard access to the hazardous areas.

You can use our safety switches without guard locking, with mechanical guard locking or with electrical guard locking – completely according to your requirements.

The features

  • Sturdy metal housing with status display
  • Rotatable actuating head (90° increments) with two inlets
  • Pluggable M12 connector (5 or 8-pin)
  • Guard locking device available with either open circuit principle or bias current principle
  • High holding forces of up to 2500 N
  • Option of switch with or without a mechanical lock or an electric lock

Emergency stop device in compact housing for easy installation on various machines and systems

The emergency stop function must be available at all times for an automated system. As a supplementary protective measure, the emergency stop device initiates an immediate stop command whenever necessary. Therefore, it can be used for personal protection functions. The device must be visibly and easily accessible at any time to permit a stoppage in the event of an emergency.

The features

  • Reliable disconnection of the power supply
  • Positive opening operation in accordance with IEC 60947-5-1
  • Pluggable connection with M12 (5-pin)
  • Turn-to-release mushroom pushbutton
  • High degree of protection against dust and water
  • Compact housing, easy installation

Rugged and wear-free

Non-contact safety sensors

Non-contact safety sensors are excellently suited for monitoring protective doors/covers or for reliably detecting positions – especially in environments in which contamination or dust can be expected.

The large operating range and the non-contact principle make these sensors insensitive to mechanical play, for example when doors settle or are guided inaccurately. The small size also provides you with more flexibility, allowing you to easily integrate the sensors.

Features

  • Resistant to dirt
  • Insensitive to mechanical play
  • Easy to integrate with small form factors
  • Nearly manipulation-resistant thanks to high coding levels
  • Flexible use for applications up to PLe or SIL 3
